We are moving in 6 weeks.

Here's me in my sari (from the trip 17 years ago - can't believe I squeezed myself into the top!)

Awesome! How exciting! And you look lovely! I love your glasses. (Also, lol at The Hobbit behind you! :D)

I look forward to hearing reports! I admit, I might romanticize India a bit. I mostly imagine beautiful colors everywhere. :)

Yes, I'm backed up by The Hobbit, the Harry Potter series, The Sandman graphic novels, Transmetropolitan, and Winnie the Pooh. I wore this to a friend's birthday party in January - it is mostly 9 yards of green silk, but the top was tailored to fit when I was in India.

What I remember most about my trip was the intensity of everything. The beautiful and the ugly are equally overwhelming.

Our internet connection is supposed to be reliable there, and this is my super-secret identity, so I will probably use this journal more often to talk in an uncensored way about what's going on. Or should I be on DW? Not sure. I noticed you were starting something up over there - can you explain the difference/advantage?

Then I'm imagining correctly! :)

DW is almost exactly like LJ, it runs on the same software. It's just run by different people who are nicer and less sneaky. I've been there for two years, maybe less. I'm not going anywhere, I just thought I'd offer invites to anyone who wanted to set up shop over there as well. If you'd like, I can send you an invite!

*claps*

Aaaaaaah! It's exciting!!

The only time I've worn a sari was a friends wedding and her mum wanted us all in traditional clothes so she got about a million miles of fabric and wrapped us all up - it wasn't fitted she just... covered us. It was well fun. We got giddy with henna too.

I LOVE henna. I wore this to a friend's birthday party in January - it is mostly 9 yards of green silk, but the top was tailored to fit when I was in India.

I'm really excited and really nervous - what am I dragging my family into?

The opportunity of a lifetime. To see such widely different cultures, to have that knowledge in your life, is UNMISSABLE. Like you say to the rev above - it's also good to see the BAD too, if that makes sense. People don't realise just how fortunate they are and it's a lesson that I wish more people had the opportunity to learn.

Congrats! It is an adventure and I am excited for your kids to see such a different culture. 9 yards of green silk. Wow!
