So we have six days until the contract on our house is sealed. It is overwhelming to walk into the garage and imagine packing up or disposing of the 10 years of accumulated junk in there. Today we just cleared some floor space.

My mom is going to take our dog, which will be good for both of them. He is smart and sweet, but a bit neurotic, and our busy lifestyle always made him kind of crazy. BetterHalf's mother is going to take our cat, and my sister is going to take her cat back.

It still doesn't feel quite real.

I've been raiding "travel light" and "packing light" and "what to take to India" websites for every crumb of advice they will yield. I don't really want to take more than a backpack each plus maybe a duffel bag for shared stuff.

It's amazing to look at the amount of stuff I have next to the amount of stuff I really need.

I haven't negotiated leaving Oxford early yet. I'm waiting for the official contract from the school in India, which they said we would have by last Friday. We need that to get our work visas as well. It's kind of maddening, but typical of dealings in India, I believe, that things happen when they happen and not before.

Wow, that is traveling light!

I work with companies in India through my job, and I know exactly what you mean about when things happen!

Hope everything goes smoothly!

Wow that is fast! Over here it takes about six months to sell a house, not six days.

And one backpack certainly is packing light. You need a gorilla to sit on your bag to get everything in ;)

How long are you going to India for?

We priced the house Very Competitively. :) And we lowered the price some in exchange for a shorter option period. So...the inspection should happen this week, and if it doesn't turn up anything horribly unexpected, the contract will be final on Friday, and we will close on June 6th.

If it all works, we couldn't ask for better timing.

We will be in India for three years. We are hoping to buy most of what we need there, so the hard part is deciding what we think we will really need and what we can't get easily or affordably there.
