How important is it that we agree on reality?

In a fit of bipolarity (?) my brother slashed at his wrists Friday morning in front of his 2 yr-old daughter and our mother.

He is "safe" now at the local State Hospital and hasn't yet been evaluated for a length of stay. I drove up over the weekend and had several long visits with him, then went home to be questioned by family members too uncertain of their receptions to visit without advice from me.

I hate advising.

I am drained down to the marrow, and then I got back to Austin to discover that one of my favorite professors died Saturday.

And then, randomly, we watched some video in Literacy Acquisition with these parents that had to decide to have the left half of their daughter's brain removed because of seizures, and I thought I was going to burst into tears.

Did I mention that I am tired?
